Why Isn’t CashSwap on the iPhone?

Why Isn’t CashSwap on the iPhone?

You followed us on Facebook or Twitter, clicked on one of our p2p currency exchange ad placements, or saw an article about CashSwap. You tried to install the CashSwap mobile app. You quickly found out that the app is not available in the iOS App Store. That’s unfortunately correct. We are only available on Google Play for the time being.

“But CashSwap, what on earth are you thinking? Why would you build the Android version before the iOS version?”

The truth is, we didn’t. We launched iOS and Android at almost the same time with the same features. Shortly after that we were kicked from the App Store by Apple. The explanation we were given is that Apple does not approve of an app that allows people to physically meet up and exchange something of value. Scratching your head? Us too.

We were fairly confident that we were entering a robust landscape of peer to peer applications on iOS. There’s literally a ton of apps that meet the description above. Consider Craig’s List, Uber, letgo, Lyft, airbnb, and on and on and on. We suspect that the real issue here is that we’re dealing with cash money. Again, we aren’t sure how there should be concerns over exchanging $200 US dollars into British Pounds when I can arrange to meet someone in a parking lot to sell a $2000 diamond ring.

To be 100% clear. CashSwap member safety is our PRIME concern and that’s why all currency exchange is restricted to the airport. Airports already are highly secure facilities. On top of that, we have implemented the following safety protocols:

  1. Real Member Photos to Identify Your Swap Connection
  2. Member Ratings Based on Previous Swaps
  3. Forced Interaction via Video/Text/Voice in-app Prior to Currency Exchange
  4. Maximum Currency Exchange Amounts to Reduce Risk
  5. Members Always Empowered to “Not Swap” if They Feel Uncomfortable

And, again, this is all done within the airport which has a high degree of security personnel and cameras to prevent any incidents.

“So what is the plan for iOS?”

We are working as fast as possible to upgrade the CashSwap website to include the currency exchange swap functionality. This should be read within the next few months. At the same time, we’re continuing to appeal to the Apple to reconsider their decision to block us from the App Store.

We just wanted you to know that we didn’t forget iOS. We’re working on it every day. Making sure that everyone, regardless of what kind of smartphone they have, has access to the guaranteed best way to exchange currency at airports worldwide.

Until then, download the app on Google Play now and see the savings in less than 60 seconds. There’s no need to sign up to check the rates!
